We look for a lot of standards and qualities and choose the best school for our kids since school plays a pivotal role in our children’s learning. Schools give them education, the key to their life. But child educated only at school is uneducated.

They need to learn from many places and the home comes first in them, especially at times of pandemic where the learning is confined to screens and video calls. Teaching from home and getting the kids to listen is the biggest hurdle that every parent face. It causes anxiety and stress in both the kids and the parents. But it can be made better with these simple tips.

Environment Means a Lot

The most important thing that comes first in having effective learning at home is having a dedicated study space. It helps them become comfortable and focus on learning. A well-lit and ventilated place occupied with books and plants create a positive studying environment for the kids and let them sit at ease, keep their mind fresh and help to concentrate better.

Congested and noisy place hinder in learning and teaching. A suitable desk and a chair to write and learn is an added advantage. Distractions need to be reduced, never choose a room with a television or any other distractions. Accompany them and read to them whenever necessary.

Make the Children Understand the Content

Even if the schools teach them diligently and they learn earnestly it is natural to have less understanding in a few topics. Especially during these online video classes, there are chances for the child to get distracted easily and the miss the teaching.

Only a better understanding provoke them with more questions and help them get better knowledge on the topic. Parents should make the kids understand the concept of the topic in the content.

Sit with them and listen to them to know about their knowledge on the topic and then continue teaching. It will guide us on what to teach them. Accompanying them in their assignments and helping them might also help them understand the concept better.

While teaching, patience is very important, don’t be harsh if they misunderstand and get distracted. Take a break and re-teach them. Learn along with them which motivates them to study the given material. It reduces their pressure in learning and opens their mind to the concepts and lets them grasp easily.

Choose Resources for Better Results

Teaching gets effective with the right resources. Be it charts, models, learn-play kits and sometimes our day to day things make a great resource. Choose an appropriate resource that would interest them and would aid with your teaching. Digital space is an important resource. Kids get attracted and interested to take up virtual learning than theoretical learning.

Make use of the available technology at home. A pinch of technology is an added salt to make learning effective and to grab the whole attention of your kids. Make use of their textbooks with pictures; allow them to talk about the content which gives a clear idea of what the children understood.

Let the Focus Be on the Child – Not on the Work

Parents always urge their children to complete the work which leads to stress and pressure. The matter of marks and on-time work means a lot to most of the parents. Do not overemphasize on the kids and focus on the child rather than on the given work.

Try to understand what difficulty the child is facing in the completion of the work. Keep in mind that parents are not teachers and home does not replace the school. Give them the extra care and try to know about their weakness and strengths. Know their likes and take advantage of it to make them understand. Be flexible at times.

Rewards and Appreciation Motivate Better

Some kids are self-motivated but some kids need a push to reach their goals. Reward your child for every step they go ahead in learning. Appreciate their hard work and allow the children to take pride in their success.

Encourage the kids with the healthy competition; make them understand they are no less than other children. Motivate the children to do better in their assignments and stand by their side. Let your child know you believe in them.

Fill with Love for Learning

Giving ears to their questions and responding on time works effectively on their learning. Show your curiosity towards their learning and encourage their effort. Connect yourself with their learning and make it fun. Allow them to think about how to learn the content easily with funny hints. Set an expectation for the kids to think and achieve bigger.

Kids love to teach their parents what they have learned. They tend to enjoy being a teacher. For preschoolers and school-aged kids, a teacher-student pretend play would be fun. Parents can learn a lot from their kids at all times.

Make it Lively and Vivid

Enjoy the time of teaching with your kids. If possible, make the learning circle of the children bigger- Grandparents, friends, uncles etc. Children feel happier when they get a new teacher every day. Active learning is simply natural.

They are not book worms rather bring the content to life. Create an activity that teaches the concept better than the words in their textbooks. It also helps them to build physical growth. Parents should familiarize with the curriculum and syllabus of their children that the school takes before they get into teaching their kids. Parents and the family are the first teachers for their children.

Parents tend to have a different understanding of what learning at home is. Teaching children at home is always the best so parents need to understand their kids mentally and accompany them in their hard times. The connection between the home and school allows children to get educated in all aspects of life.
